Olympic Thrills in Alberta

In 1988, the eyes of the world were on Alberta for the Winter Olympic Games. With top facilities still in use today, the Olympic legacy in Alberta lives on offering athletes and guests a taste of a true Olympic experience.

Canada Olympic Park
The Olympic spirit thrives at Canada Olympic Park which continues to function as a venue for competition, training and recreation for both high performance athletes and the general public.

Sliding sports races are won or lost based on performance at the start. The Ice House, the world’s only indoor push-start facility for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton, provides a year-round training facility for athletes preparing for their shot at gold.

For the adventurous, try the 60-second thrill of riding in a bobsleigh. Piloted by a professional driver, travel up to 120km/h while experiencing 5G forces as you make your way down the same 14 turns of the sliding track used in 1988.

Unleash your inner champion and learn about Canada’s greats at the Sports Hall of Fame. This award-winning facility has over 50 interactive exhibits and is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Canada’s impressive and inspiring sport history.

Ski like an Olympian
Home to Canada’s national nordic and biathlon teams, the Canmore Nordic Centre offers a world-class trail system. Literally follow in an Olympian’s tracks along more than 65 km (37 mi) of groomed and trackset trails amidst a pristine alpine backdrop.

Nakiska, known as “Calgary’s Closest Mountain”, was developed for the 1988 alpine events and is now a popular Alberta ski resort. The official training centre for the Alpine Canada team, Nakiska is used as a pre-season race training facility by teams around the world. Though fit for Olympians, this Alberta resort offers ski runs for all skill levels.

Skate Your Way to Gold
Master one more Olympic sport in Alberta and set a new speed record when skating at the Calgary Olympic Oval. Home of the fastest ice in the world, short and long track speed skaters gather here to train and compete.
